Sig and the boys always do a professional job, are reasonably priced and have the capability and common sense to prioritize repairs should your car be your only driver or if you have an emergency repair. I've always ended up paying slightly less than the original quote. They don't upsell you and ONLY work on Mercedes-Benz cars. BBB rating of A+

Do you think they would allow me to bring in my own part to have them install it and just pay for labor fees?

(radiator)
I can't say for sure but I've done this in the past with non-dealer shops on my other cars so it's not uncommon. Give them a call and ask, they are very easy to talk to and no attitude to put up with.

x3!! Sig's shop is great... everything I have done to my cars, it's at MBI... been going to him since I had my 240D in high school.

I have never been shocked by a bill... usually surprised it's lower than I had thought it would be or been quoted.

Thanks to Sig, Rich, Brandon and crew!!

Just had some work done by German Service LTD. out of Hillsboro, Oregon. I just had an oil change and had Ron (owner) check out the car because I just bought it about a month ago, and wanted another set of eyes. He was helpful and answered all my questions, and did what I wanted to get done.
Shop rate is $85 hr. Oil change was $85. Cool guys. I recommend them, but this is my first time out with them. I'll go there again for more work, and see how they are next time.

I have to agree on MBI motors. Sig and the boys were awesome. Highly recommend. Very reasonable and honest

Anyone Tried the Shop in Oregon City?

They are advertising on Craig's List as Mercedes Diesel Specialists - no shop name given, but they say they also have lots of parts for '73 and up and trained in Germany for 7+ years. Phone is 503-654-4488.

No longer a fan of MBI after one parts-counter guy and then two apparently more senior guys rudely and dismisively insisted that their bosch pencil glow plugs for older 123s (upgraded from loop-style) were $40 EACH at their retail counter. Not $14; not for a set of them; not installed; just $40 each, retail. "They're hard to get". The three of them scoffed at me like I was a dumb woman. Total BS and they were very dismisive. Sig was there, but seemed embarassed and kind of hid away when I started to look toward him. Luckily, I have benzworld and other internet resources, so this was one dumb woman who didn't spend $200 on $55 worth of glow plugs. At some point, they realized the error and had corrected the price when I checked again recently (just to see). I might spend $10 or $20 there on something I need in a hurry (though I've even found the dealer cheaper on some parts). However, I still don't trust them with anything significant and they won't be working on my cars again.

I will say that I had my 100k mile service and some steering components replaced at German Service Ltd. (I work out here and my friend at work always takes his BMW to GSL). I was really impressed with the service and professionalism.

Only thing I didn't appreciate was the $3500 in suggested repairs... that were already done by the dealer a few months prior.

Overall tho... I will be going back, due to the convenience.

That is quite true, if you don't have the time or the money to visit the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart, Germany, go to MBI Motors in Portland. Their yard shows almost all the models from the 1950s to the present day.

Sadly, Sig has retired and the shop has changed hands. I didn't know this and wondered when I took my car in why there were so many empty bays and unfamiliar faces. The new owner doesn't bother with things like calling you to tell you they haven't fixed your car yet (well, he does on the 4th day, when they've finished) and they don't mind altering the programming a bit (you don't really want one-click window up/down, do you?). So, I need to find a new shop - anyone have any ideas?

TIA,
Sad in Portland

My dad has used Burback in the past and has good things to say about them... I will check them out if I need a shop in Portland for anything... since I use German Service in Hillsboro for service at this point.

Sad as well... Did Rich take it over? I never got along with him... Does any of the old crew work there still? Brandon, Carlos, Rick... anyone?

I called there today and spoke with Sig directly. Although they said that he was only there on Mondays, but happened to be in today (Tuesday).

I have taken all my personal cars to them over the years starting with my 16v 190 in high school. These guys are class act, like Mike O'Hara is for BMW in Portland.

MBI DOWN THE CHUTES

Sig where are you! You had the place popping. I remember you running to help me out. New owner sits on his stool and gazes around like a pasture ruminant. Empty bays and the life gone out of the place as far as I can see. Also learned big lesson. If problems are complicated, take it to a dealer. This is no place for complex issues anymore.

Sincerely, Darcey

Anyone have the answer to this yet? Curious who the new owner is, but doesn't sound too promising by these comments. I think I'll try Burback next time but I do love the Rasmussen (dealer) service as well so that's always a valid option.
