Garrett, I remember you asked about a certain code you found on the valve cover of a customer's (or your) car. It was code 491 which meant it was a US-version.

Instead of making this a sticky, the link was just added to the online tech links. I believe you can update that thread to include this information.

This list does not include the paint codes though, just a FYI.

Some fun stuff:

Soon my car will have code 481 but it currently has 630, 646 and 656 :D

I hope my car will not have code 473

Your car could also have 994 or 997. :)

Here's another website with option codes: amcon: Mercedes-Benz common options

Between the above link and the attached PDF, I've been able to decipher nearly every option so far. The PDF also has interior and exterior codes.

Helpful thread! How about code 879? I think it has something to do with headrests but I haven't managed to get a straight answer.

Maybe a noob question - but is there a way to find the options list from my VIN number?

Yep, got to epc.startekinfo.com

Sign up for an account, it's free for US users (they will need your credit card to verify US residency, but will not charge it).

You can then log in and open up the EPC program. From there, you can enter your VIN and look up your data card.

Be aware that there are enough duplicate codes that sometimes the EPC gives you the wrong name for the code. You will need to go through and use these various code lists to figure out what actually applies to your car, sometimes using common sense to pick through the duplicates. For example, no W123 cars have electronic locking differentials so I knew when I saw that it was not that, but instead the other code.
