Just wanted to know of everyones opinions regarding a new purchase. My ML may need to be replaced and I want a newer ML. Is the newest model worth the $$. What are the main differences?? Looking at 320ish line, do not need 430, 500 or AMG....

There were few differences in the ML320 for the 2002/2003 model years. In 2004, the 3.2-liter V6 was replaced by a more powerful 3.7-liter V6 and it was badged as an ML350. It remained mostly unchanged for 2005, except for the Special Edition package. That package was priced about the same as leather and a sunroof, but also included running boards, the ML55-style domed hood and silver grill, brushed aluminum roof rails, and chrome accents on the door handles and tailgate.

There should be a decent supply of 2002 and 2003 ML320’s coming off lease. I would not think there would be much of a selection of pre-owned 2004 or 2005 ML350’s, but you might actually find a few new 2005’s still on dealer’s lots. If so, I’d expect a huge discount. If you could get a leftover 2005 ML350 SE for under $37K, that would be a good deal.

When I went looking for an ML last year I learned the 2002 was the last main change. We ended up with a 2003 ML320. The 3.7L motor came out some time in 2003 so late 2003's are ML350's vs the earlier ones being ML320's.

As far as I know no differences except for "special edition" 2005's. These are mostly appearance and option packages. No mechanicals or features I think.

I had similar thoughts when I had my 99 in for service and had an 04 for several weeks. Then I saw the Lexus GX470. While I still like the styling of the ML better than the Lexus, the GX470 is a much better execution of the same basic ML design.

The GX has a smoother ride, better off-road capability, 7 seats, better NAV system with voice control and bluetooth standard with NAV, nicer interior, and better quality. Dimenssions are about the same as the new W164. The 2003 model seemed to have typical first year bugs, but the 2005 looks very good with a 40hp bump.

I decided to wait another year to see what the upcoming Audi Q7 will look like.

I was just at the stealer today for a repair. Saw the new ML, but I need the 3rd seat. Saw a brochure for the new G class and it looks like the new ML on steriods.

Just have to wait it out and see....
