C350, or C280 even. They're great cars and amply quick.
Unless you really need to compensate for something [8D]

Invest the extra 15-20K, not to mention all the money you'll save on fuel.
The planet, and maybe your kids, will thank you for it [:)]

PS: Since this is the AMG forum, the deck is stacked here! I'll apologize in advance and STFU now [:0][8D]

In my current position with baby on the way, if I had the option to buy a brand new Merc, I would go with the C350 Sportpack Auto and kit it out with all the cool options just the way I want it. Performance is more than adequate, it's a tad over a second off the mark to 60 as compared to the C55. Topspeed is the same.

With the saving, I would rather save it until I have enough money for a twin turbo set up.

Bye-bye AMG.

Same top speed? The C350 will go 155mph? Might take you 5 minutes to get there.. I bet the C55 will go at least 180mph without the limiter.. I hardly consider that the same top speed.

maybe only 1 sec difference to 60.. but much different going to 100..

The C55 has everything upgraded, suspension, interior, engine, etc..

If they made a c500 it would be worth considering.. then just adding a supercharger.. but then you need suspension, sway bars, etc..

Get a C55 if you can afford it. Why not consider buying a used one with low miles?

good luck

I am 30 years old, not officially married but basically married, and my income will be around 115K+- this year. I just want to make sure that for what I am paying for I am getting a really good car in return. I usually overanalyze things when it comes to big purchases but I don't want to be foolish with my money. I appreciate all of the inputs.

I agree, wait for the W204. Once you drive the AMG you would not want to go back to the C350. The difference is just too extreme in this case. If you're not looking into speed that much then I'd go with the C350, but if you are an adrenaline junkie the AMG is your best bet.

Congrats on the soon to be purchase, you are around my age also but lucky to be buying a new benz soon. What are you a doctor?

Anyways, I would personaly choose the c350 as per the review of magazines who note the power difference is negligible between the two. Plus you get a LOT better gas mileage. The 350 will beat most cars out there like the 330i and keep up with the g35 and do it in class and sports car feel.

If you want pure power why not get a used c32 for fun then wait until the next gen and get a 350 then or something later on ,or in reverse.

I bought my '05 Monday so it's hard for me to give an honest experienced opinion but I did my homework prior to purchase and i firmly believe that this is the best car for the money you can buy. i came out of a Boxster and the C55 is faster, safer, and a better all around car- I club race in scca and i have a bad left knee.. The Benz allows me to minimize wear and tear on my leg yet still smoke mustang GTs!

Well, best of luck. I'm getting myself a low mileage C32 end of this year. C320 is nice but lacks that edge. C350 by comparison is like driving my C320 but better in every aspect. The steering response is sharper, the drive firm enough but not bone jarring, the exhaust note crisper, throttle response is sharper, the 7G Tronic shifts smoother and a whole lot quicker and now there is enough power to embarass most wannabees.
