What I am looking for is to keep my 98 S320 185K miles, as reliable as I can e.g. avoid breakdowns. I have been successful so far by performing the scheduled maintenance along with recommendations on this site e.g. coolant T, voltage regulator etc.

I just wanted opinion on this list as to perform proactively. For example changing out a component that has reached its expected life and has a high probability of failure.

-Crankshaft position sensor
-Ignition Coils
- Ignition Wires (from coils to spark plugs)+
-Idler Drive Belt Pulleys
-Drive Belt Tensioner ( I know I have the latest style which I believe I not prone to failure)
-Radiator ( I was most worried about avoiding coolant leaking into trans if radiator fails)
-Transmission Coolant Hoses

Thanks,

Seth

Yes fuel pump
fuel filter
fuel regulator
Rear fuel hoses

Thearmostat
Radiator petcock valve
overflow tank cap

ALL 12 to 14 hoses that carry coolant
Rear heater tee(the popular one)
front tee going to the overflow tank

Transmission circular connector

new plugs
air filter
clean the throttle body butterfly
Inspect those rubber wye vacuum tee's under the intake.
replace some of those hard plastic lines, and especially the ones under the rectangular top valve cover that go to the egr and air-pump valve.

Martin,

Thanks for you listing. I have already performed the following:
fuel filter
Thermostat
Radiator petcock valve
overflow tank cap
Rear heater tee (the popular one)
front tee going to the overflow tank
Transmission circular connector
new plugs
air filter

So your listing has given me something to work with. I was surprised you did not mention the crankshaft position sensor, coils and spark plug wires but since I did ask I will take your advice.

Life Expectancy of a Radiator

yes these sorry ass radiator can leak coolant into trans.either replace rad with a good one,or mount a external cooler like the s600
I have maintained the cooling system with timely flushes and MB coolant only. However, every part has a life expectance and I suppose that approaching 200K miles I could not expect much more than that. Since I would not want to deal with Radiator coolant into my transmission I'll consider adding that to the list.

I can get a Behr radiator to $258. That's not too bad.

Thanks,

Seth
