how to release open a bonnet, 1/1982 RHD 280SE
Welcome to the forum
To find your section please click forums top left, or complete forum listing on the right, and scroll down to W126
(i think)

On the benzworld bar top right, clicking the 3 vertical dot option menu next to your avatar, or clicking your avatar let you edit your profile, change settings, or search the forum archive for threads related to your issues, and more..
Clicking FAQ will show how to navigate the forum, and search your section of the forum archives for related threads.
Its a good idea to include the mod and year (like 1982 280SE) of your car visible to everyone reading your posts (similar to my profile next to this), it helps generate responses.
Members wanting to give correct advice are not likely to search through an entire thread for your posts mentioning the engine / mod of your car.
Cheers

P.S. Fellow mod 420 SE is what you call a banana bender  and his sig also has the link to the Aussie MB club

I have the coupe SEC which is different, i think once you pull the release lever in front of the drivers door, next to your leg space, the hood should go up 1 step, search with your fingers and there should be 2 release levers on both sides of the hood.
Otherwise, a second step hood release will stick out from the grill when you pull the hood up slightly.
#10 is the inside car lever. RHD will be on the opposite side.

Thank again, not having any luck searching forums or by handle, so far.
Click on Forums top left like I explained earlier, scroll down to Mercedes Benz Sedan Forums, and the correct forum for your car.
I already copied your thread there.

So THATS a bonnet
Not to be confused with 'having a bee under the bonnet.'

Thank you so much. It is RHD so I take it the release will be on the left hand side. Having new rotors fitted so can't wait to get it back & have a good sticky beak under the bonnet.
Yes, the release handle. # 10 in the diagram will be on your passenger side, near your passengers left knee, and will let your hood pop up slightly.
The second release will be a lever that sticks slightly out of your grille, # 7 in diagram (or on either side of the grille). I am more familiar with the coupe, and a different front release..

Edited 10/18 re hood release

Come to W126 and see us there 😁

Bonnet release on RHD is on the left, passenger side. Then Teutone has explained the rest very nicely for you. Early saloons have the little levers either side of the grille for the secondary release. Later ones have a tab that pops out of the grille but I dunno when the changes happened.

We live and learn, I didn't know that. (edited my earlier post)
So the German engineers were lazier than their Brit counterparts. The Jaguars and Aston Martin my family had in Germany were of course LHD, but with hood releases on the left, next to the driver.

No, I have two Porsche RHD 928's and they both have bonnet releases on the driver's side, near the right knee also. Some of the wiring you would expect on the drivers' side is stashed on the left though. I would call having the bonnet release on the left in all models a sensible piece of pragmatism & excellent cost saving - 98% of the world drives LHD vehicles !

The funniest one is not moving the drivers armrest, or even the gear selection indicator - it's on the wrong side for the RHD cars really. Lol.

As an aside, a buddy here collects Porsche cars, incl 928's of which he has 16 now, Anything from 4.5 to 5.4 L.
The Porsche fuel system / distributor look quite similar to Mercedes M117/116
