I cleaned out the fuel tank on my 1987 300tdt ,changed the online and spin on filter put in new diesel and cranked it over....10 sec...20 sec....30sec and it started to have ignition but I got.nervous and let the starter cool down for 20 min and then gave it another go....20sec.... ..30sec...and it was just about to start when the starter stopped....
Is there a separate fuse for the starter? Could I.have been lucky and blown a fuse? Anyone know where the fuse is or how I can test for burned up starter without removing. I working on it now. Thx

I'm not aware of a fuse, but you may have burned up the starter solenoid...or your ignition switch is going bad...or you have a bad engine ground...or a dead battery

Starter solenoid is one option, but hanging brushes are more common. With proper access you can use needle pliers, or other wrench to jump the solenoid connectors to test the motor.
In the past I could buy new brushes and solenoids as separate parts - now nobody sells $4 brushes, but want $400 for starter.

Had a spare starter laying around, installed it and in 10 sec of cranking the engine came to life!!! I'll take apart the old one to see what the damage is.
