we have a three month old 2010 ml350 that all of a sudden started smelling inside like a onion -a bad one at that. our dealer began by bombing the ac - then replacing the cabin filter - then trying a special fumigation from mercedes - only to ultimately find out it is the SLIDING COVER FOR THE SUNROOF. SMEELS TERRIBLE. seems tobe on the mb tech site - 26 or so reported cases. so they took out the sliding cover and now have to find a new one that doesn't smell. the dealer has been great. wanted to share the info, larry

same here

i have that smell always when starting the AC for the first 10-20 seconds. After that it smells ok. This issue continued also after changing all the air filters and stuff. Does anybody knows any nice oder which smells nice especially in the summer with the heated leather? :)

PS. I made also the following discovery: the onion smells comes actually all time time if the vent is on and the AC is put on REST. If the AC is really working then as mentioned earlier, the onion smell is only for a couple of seconds; but if only the ventilation with the setting "AC rest" then the onion smells comes continuously in the car.

ONION SMELL

Yesterday I took my new car and complained-they replaced the air filters but I still smell it. It has been very embarrassing as I use my car with customers. Yes, it smells like ONIONS-or BAD Body Odor. I swear I thought something was wrong with me!

I am so glad I found these posts, I am not sure what my "rights" are to deal with this. I have had my car for about 8 months and even put air freshners under my seats-but they just smell like ONIONS mixed with air freshners.

Tomorrow AM-I am calling again-but I am very turned off by the car. My last car was the Porsche Cayanne-Now I have the 350ML-I wish I kept my old car. But I am really glad it's not me! I even scrubbed down the leather.
