Hey now all...how long between oil changes on trans, hubs etc. do you guys go? The manual is as clear as mud....on a clear day, but not following a full moon blah....I have put ~6000 km on in a year & changed the engine oil just a few km's ago ....what about the rest? I did search but didn't find anything specific....
thx

I think I read somewhere to change your engine oil every 300 hours and hubs every 600. I change mine on a month to month (4 and 8 months), as I don't put to many hours on my truck (oil degrades just sitting there) I am not to sure about the tranny and diffs, I have only done mine once (in the 2 years I have had it) I will probably change them again in a years time.

Well..... not getting a lot of response (yes this seems like a simple question/answer) BUT in the manual it says to change the trans/hubs/axles every 1200 hrs. or 40,000km's......this seems like a really long time to let these go! I guess I can just make it up as I go along but ~10L of trans fluid is $$$!! (MTL Redline) ANY other suggestions?

Well I would go with the recommended changes, unless the oil is contaminated,
the selection of older tractors at home only very occassionaly, if at all, get an oil change, and no bother and we are talking stuff from 1957 (B250 diesel) onwards, I do not think that oil degrades from sitting, Ok a minute amount of atmospheric moisture perhaps gets in is all.
Same as some of the guys running super synthetic oils in the older ie pre 1991"G" Wagens, a waste of money imo.

The 40,000KM or 1200 hour figure sounds about right... in normal intended use Mercedes figured that these trucks would see this much use in a year period, and that sounds about normal for any big truck, BUT if it was me I would change the fluids in the trans, axles, and portals either once a year, or once every two years depending on how much moisture you have where you live, just due to the fact that most mogs won't see that much use in 10 years.

Cheers,
Ben
