My 85 380sl is in the process of being brought back to life. It sat for about 6 years and I have slowly been replacing things and driving it around town to get it back in shape. I had a problem with all of the guages not working, but got that all back working. The oil pressure guage, however, is constanlty pinged as high as it can go. Any ideas as to what could be causing high oil pressure? could it be just the guage or the sending unit? any help apreciated.

Could be gauge or sender, but do get it checked.

Does it go high when you turn the ignition on and stay there, or does it sit low till the engine starts?

Does it come off the high peg when warmed up and at idle (at all).

Could be a stuck bypass valve?

It is usually easy to find a place to tap in a cheap mechanical gauge as a quick test.

It's supposed to be pegged at anything above idle. If it isn't, that's when you worry.
