More good news - from another old post by someone who's done a few of these remove & replace jobs. He recommends raising the motor, but says the "give" of the rubber motor mounts should be enough to provide enough room to fiddle the pan out from between the motor and whatever is beneath it. No need to disconnect everything detailed in the earlier PDFs, just raise the motor about 1/2" and that should do it.

It can be done with a full on cherry picker engine crane, but an engine support bar from Harbor Freight ($79) should be enough to get the job done. Will see.
