Okay, I need help on what it takes to lift engine enough to remove oil pan on 1989 190E 2.6. I'm working with car on tire stands. I've been offered various advice on what needs to be disconnected before I can jack engine and place blocks of wood between engine mount shocks and subframe (so I get enough clearance to remove pan). Today after removing engine mount bolts from below I tried jacking engine off of mounts. Didn't work. Whole car just began to lift higher. What's that about? (As you've guessed by now, I'm kind of a "Compleat Idiot's Guide to VW Repair" type of mechanic.) So what do I still need to do? Disconnect driveshaft? What else? Trying to do this with as little additional steps as possible...............Where do I find driveshaft connection? (Never had to worry about that with my old VW's) If I have to disconnect exhaust, where should I do that? Any other stuff to disconnect? (I already loosened the fan shroud.) Thanks for any help ahead of time........Joel

Joel, you might as well take the transmission mount off the 91 and put it on the 89 when you're putting things back together. It's brand new. New motor mounts are probably a good idea too.

Hopefully someone here can help you with oil pan.

loletagm I changed the guibos last summer on my w201 190e and to jack up the engine, I had only to remove the transmission support block at the rear of the transmission, but be careful and check for the driveshaft, it's articulated but it has it's limits, hope this helps!
