Oil Leak at Vaccuum Pump

I have a significant leak from around vacuum pump for brake system attached at rear of engine to the camshaft. I have been told it is a common source for an oil leak. My question is: Is this simply due to a bad seal and pulling the existing pump and replacing the gasket and reinstalling same pump is likely to eliminate the leak, or is replacing the pump itself (along with a new gasket) recommended? Pump price is $180-200 vs. $3.00 gasket.

Same here. I smelled some fuel and they found a leak at the back of the engine. Replacing the gasket work. No problem now. total cost with labor is about $100.
Best regards,
Song
Thank you! How long has it been with no more leaking?
that's a good question. It's been only about a week after fixing the gasket. I think it was a temperature related issue (in my case), as the gasket leaks on a -46'c day in Edmonton. It was perfectly fine before.

I've been trying to look for a thread talking about this issue for my 08 E300 with m272 engine. I guess this is the closest. I have a leak as per the attached pictures (vacuum pump originally installed by Benz with part number 272 230 04 65). I realize this is not the latest as the updated pump is 272 230 05 65. I am really not inclined to change the whole pump. I got the O-ring and I am looking for the gasket seal. Could some one pass me the part number for the gasket seal for this pump?

I guess this is just a dead thread. I re-posted to this new thread http://www.benzworld.org/forums/gen...-pump-oil-leak-gasket-272-a.html#post16149178
I hope someone can confirm whether the vacuum pump gasket can be sold separately.
Thanks!
You might have better luck in the proper forum for your car. The W203's with the M272 engines did not use this pump. I suspect the OP in this thread was talking about the oil centrifuge cover.

I have a 2007 C230 with an M272 Engine that has this vacuum pump. Its making noise, leaking oil and my brakes are hard so I will be replacing it. The centrifuge cover is on the other side, the passenger side, I replaced the centrifuge cover and hose while chasing a rough idle but didn't solve the issue, it's a subtle rough idle that comes when the car is cold. After its warmed up, the rough idle only manifests itself in sporadic intermittent single stumbles, like a single shake that feels like the car wants stall. They appear 2-3 times in a 30 minute period idling :confused: The Engine/Transmission mounts are all new so I know that's not it.

Some one in another thread said the vacuum pump replacement solved his rough idle  I guess I will find out. I can't find a vacuum leak anywhere.

Please do come back with your findings so we can all learn from this.

Did you get to change your vacuum pump? Did it fix your rough idle?

I did change the vacuum pump. No noticeable difference. I still have that random shudder/rough idle and still no codes or CEL. Brakes are still somewhat hard in my opinion but It could be because I drive an accord and a C230, The accord brakes are super soft and responsive so I may just be feeling the difference between the two.
