Hi All,

I've recently bought a 1992 SL 300-24 (UK Spec). I'm intending to change the oil & oil filter but I have hit a snag.

Anywhere I look (Here, AllDataDIY.com, parts shops & websites) the oil filter is listed as an element type filter, i.e. the filter housing is not changed, only the filter element itself (& O rings).

Currently on the car there is a cartridge type oil filter (i.e. the whole filter, housing etc is replaced each time).

Would anyone know the part number for the cartridge type filter or be able to shed any light on this?

Thanks.

Colin

PS. I cannot see any writing at all on the current filter.

You are correct in this case go to the stealer to get it.
It will only be a little more, we are talking oil filter.
So you don't get the wrong one, or is going to cost you.
We don't have the same engines.
Regards.
aam.

My 1991 300SL-24 uses the element filter. Strange that yours has a 'spin-on' filter. Is this normal for a 1992 or did the previous owner adapt a kit? The current filter on your engine should have some kind of part number printed on its housing. I agree with aam, go to the dealer and get the correct one.
