Did my first oil and filter change on my 2006 E350 and it was a piece of cake.

A few questions:
My new filter had 5 gaskets and 2 of the small gaskets were not used. I believe this is normal. Someone said that one of those small unused gaskets goes on the oil dipstick. Can anyone confirm?
Also is there any reason or is it even possible to remove the plastic stem away from the housing? Are there gaskets or any service needed in there?

All of the o-rings get used that come with the filter kit.
The cap and stem come apart and there is an o-ring there. Most people do not change
that one and that leaves one o-ring left over in the kit.

I have no idea where your second one is missing without some sort of visual reference.
The job is not done correctly until you get the second o-ring on there.

Can you describe to me how to separate the oil filter stem from the cap housing?
Also I think the last O ring may go on the dipstick but I have try it first...
