Hello all.

I have been driving an 00 e320 for the past 4 years and I just rolled over 170k miles. I do all of my own maintenance and the car runs like new and has been dead reliable. I've owned about 5 benzes of this vintage, but have never taken one to this kind of mileage. I was curious as to how much oil your higher mileage w210's are using between changes. I know these motors are known to use some oil between changes, but I ended up using about 1.2 quarts on a 1500 mile trip from Texas to Virginia. However, back home I can usually make it the full 6,000 miles between changes before using that much oil. I run premium fuel, mobil 1 0w-40 synthetic and quality fleece filters. The car also has brand new bosch non-resistor plugs, wires and ignition coils. I am going to continue to use the car as a workhorse for the foreseeable future because I love the way she drives, but I would just like to know the rate at which others are consuming oil.

Thanks!

Mine consumes about the same. with 90 percent, and 65 mph driving on the Turnpike. My son drives it. It has consumed much less when 60-70 percent city driving. I believe it is normal, or considered to be normal by MB technicians. Some say, it is due to throttle intake gasket leak, and / or plugged crankcase ventilation. I checked both and replaced the gasket with the updated one, and the hoses, still no difference. The car is nearly at 200K, and all is well with everything else.

You are just fine. My E320 and ML320 use about same amount. ML350 does not use a drop with 157k on the clock.

I use Castrol Edge 5W/40 with 6000k intervals. Bought few shares in Castrol stock to offset the cost. I am way ahead. :ROFLMAO:

My E430 has been amazing.

it has 110,000 miles now, but for the first 17 or 18 years of it’s life it just putted around town for maybe 3 to 5000 miles a year. Oil was always changed on an annual basis.

synthetic oil has always been used for the life of the car, generally mobil 0–40.

but last change I let it go to over 12,000 miles with the FSS and it didn’t even use a qt.

it now has about 8000 miles on it and maybe a half quart?

that includes the 4000 mile trip to the Southwest a few months ago

I now use the “Mercedes“ synthetic-5W 40, which I was told is a mobil 1 formulation

Mine is just less - 1 qrt - between changes. I drive the car hard, 98% highway, 0W40 and use the FSS for oil service. Following FSS, my oil changes come at 13K.

With my 01 4Matic wagon (200,000 miles) I don’t add any oil between 10,000 mile changes.
With my 02 4Matic sedan (190,000 miles) I add 1 - 2 quarts between 10,000 mile changes.

i use Mobil1 0W40 in both.

Be aware that if a car is normally used for shorter trips ,,when you take it out for a long trip it is sometimes normal for the oil level to go down a bit more as volatile compounds in the oil are burnt off due to the sustained higher temperature running.
