Gentlemen,

Changing oil on a 2010 Bluetec ML ( 648 engine) I noticed that when I removed the oil filter element, there was still oil left in the "filter element case". There are around 100 -150ml of oil that remain undrained.
Is there any check valve that holds that oil there or something doen't look right? The only way to get that "dirty" oil out is to suck it out.
See the attached picture.

Did you guys notice this? On my other MB cars I didn't see this.
New 648 engine feature to minimize building oil pressure time?

Normal. I just use a disposable shop towel to soak it up.

My Ford Powerstroke diesels allow me to change less than 75% of oil since they hold some in High Pressure Oil Pump and you worry about few tablespoons on the bottom of filter housing?
Did you look inside oil cooler?

I change oil with an extractor, so I pull the filter, then suck out the housing, then the dipstick. There is oil still in the cooler, but just since I have the extractor I do the housing. My VW TDI also has a similar bit left in the filter housing.

Yes, that left over oil is normal but it would be nice if was a lot less. I prefer the old way of removing the oil which I did today. The nice thing about this SUV is no need for a floor jack. I only leave 4 of the screws for the oil pan cover. The 5 quart 0W-40 Mobil 1 at the Walmart near me was on sale for $23.88.

Did you look inside oil cooler?
Your Powerstrokes hold 20 quarts dry? I don't doubt there is some oil remaining but I didn't have any trouble draining 15 quarts from my 2008 F-250.

HPOP alone on Powerstroke holds over 2 quarts. So at least 3 quarts of motor oil never leave the engine during standard oil change.
Ford advise 7500 intervals on dino oils.
Bottom line is that you will never completely drain any fluid from the car and evidently engineers are not worry about it.
Should we?
I have seen pictures of engines run for 100,000 miles on factory oil and even they look nasty, they did not have any major problems.

I have seen pictures inside engines run for 70,000 miles without oil change for which the oil pan had to be cut off.

If you wish to 2nd guess the manufacturer's service intervals then at least pay for a UOA ($25 + postage) to know the condition of the drained oil. OTR trucks may go 100k miles between drains but not without periodic UOA to make sure nothing amiss is happening.

Thanks for the tip on buying Mobil One at Walmart. Just checked their website and it still $23.xx for 5 quarts. Not a bad deal.
This is my first time oil change with this car, 2011 MB E350 4Matic. So I'm asking what brand oil filter should I buy, and is their anything else to change while I'm doing the oils change?

Not buying that. What you have to cut off to get old oil?
Blackstone is having newsletters with results of 160,000 miles oils so it is just matter of searching.
I am changing my oils per FSS, what usually is 13,000 miles but I am not religous about 2 years to get me there and if it is inconvenient, I don't think twice to put another 1000
My motorhome has over 6 years old oil, but Detroit 30 years ago let them run for 100,000 miles just fine.
Lab test were recommended if you wanted the dino oils to do 150,000

Before you rush off to buy 0W-40 for your diesel be certain to check what oil is specified for your vehicle.
I believe it's 229.51 or the newer 229.52.
The 0W-40 is not that spec.

I get those newsletters but they are saying what I said and not what you are saying. You don't go that far without continuous testing and many can not run much longer than the manufacturer's guestimate drain interval.

"Dino oil" sounds like a child trying to sound cool. "Tranny" too.

Synthetic or refined, neither term is a performance specification. They are manufacturing methods. Generally a superior motor oil can be made with synthetic processes but use of synthetic processes does not ensure one has a product any different or better than a refined oil.

There are many synthetic motor oils which do not meet industry specifications for extended drain.

Ditto. This is the W164 forum and he said 2011 E350. That could be Bluetec or Gasoline, I don't know. I believe the Walmart Mobil-1 0W-40 is 229.5 (verify first) which is appropriate for M-B gas engines but not diesel. If it meets his requirements (again, verify, don't trust forum posts https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/bevo-sheets-sort1.html) then it is a very good value.

I use the Mann-Filter HU 718/5 X Metal-Free Oil Filter from Amazon.
You also need the "crush" oil drain washer or gasket which I got from Autozone. Check the DIY section for oil change procedure.

FYI oil pans do have bolts that allow removal without cutting or breaking.
Still we are talking about extremes. If the oil flows enough to lube the engine at high rpm, it will flow down from the pan.
Coming down to oils for diesels - I am not fan of Mobil 1 .
Did several tests of different oils on my Ford diesel truck and M1 ESP did not come as a winner.
Rule of thumb says that chem pack in oil that is design for gasoline chemistry is not going to work too well on diesel chemistry still apply.
