Maybe there is no longer a choice.... Maybe it's fleece or nothing? I wonder if i should get the filter from the dealer and return the NAPA one? The NAPA filter does make the claim to meet or exceed OEM Specs.....

Yes, best to play it safe, especially with an ML.

Did the filter at the dealer indicate it was for long change interval? Perhaps you should ask that of the service tech rather then if it’s a fleece style filter.

These things are easy to identify. The WHITE one is the one you want. The dirty-yellow is PAPER. Even though this paper one is OEM, it was bought before the fleece version came out. I have been buying them on-line and they have all been MANN, but I think there are other suppliers.

Ok here is what I paid:
9 qts Mobil1 0w-40 SuperSyn - NAPA $4.99 each = $44.91
1 Mercedes-Benz Filter (MANN Fleece) $18.50

Total $63.41 plus tax... I washed the car myself

The confusion with the fleece filter is that my dealer only caries fleece filters. It is in a Mercedes holigram sealed box made by MANN in Germany. My parts guy at the dealership even threw in a new drain plug seal for free!

Living here in the sunny land of Oz I was wondering if there is any benefit of using 0w-40w oil. Would it be better to up it to 10w-50w considering the temp ranges from 10c to 50c? Plus would changing from Mobil 1 ($AUS75.00 for 5 litres) to Shell Helix ($AUS35.00 for 5 litres) be detrimental to the engine?

Why not include Austrailia in your profile? No one knows where Adelaide is except those who live in Austrailia.

As for the oil, you can decide for yourself.

8quarts Mobil1 @ $4 per quart = $24
1 Fleece Filter @ $15 = $15
1Car Wash around $20 = $20
Sales Tax have no idea what CT have

roughly $59

but they are probably pricing oil at 6-7dollars

so i would say its not bad
I live in New York and where to get Mobil 1 syn. for $4/quart???? I am yet to see that around here. I been to Strauss, Auto Zone w/e other places and its usually 7 to 8 dollars... which adds up to about $64 just in oil... lmk thanks

brklynrep88, I suspect a big part of the reason the price seems low is because that post you quoted is from March 2006,

How much does everyone pay for an oil change?

a new place opened up in my area and i went there with my ML and they said it would be about $80 for mobile One Synthetic thats with a new filter and a A wash

I just DIY my ML yesterday and paid $8.99 per quart of Mobil 1 synthetic...I guess Hawaii is a bit expensive...
