well now i know some of you guys might say changing oil every 3,000miles is not normal but i am used to changing it every 3-5,000miles. now here is the fun part. lol anybody in hot locations used Mobil 1 Synthetic EURO BLEND 0w40? i have heard alot of good things about this oil. I have always had regular mobil 1 10w40(not synthetic). i know the weather in California gets up to 110 degrees(about 43celsius). engine runs about 90celsius plus or minus 10(depending on conditions).

i want to do synthetic so i can drive 7000miles per oil change plus its almost the same price for the oil change at my cousin's shop for me so mind as well spend the extra $15 and get synthetic. he said we can use 10w40 high mileage, 5w40 esp(oem oil), or 0w40 euro blend. he said they are about the same thing but i want to try 0w40 since i have heard alot of good stuff(especially with his customers plus on Porsche they only put 0w40).

no here is the bad thing. i have about 20quarts of 10w30(full synthetic mobil 1) in my house which i bought for my mazda but now my mazda uses 10w40 now. spent about $200 for the oil :(

Hey,

I've never used the euro blend but one of my previous cars used 5w40 mobil one synthetic and it was great. I would still change the oil and filter at around 3k miles depending on driving conditions and such...

I've been told by a few different mechanics that if the W140 is still using conventional oil leave it at that. You could possibly develop leaks by switching to synthetic. I read somewhere on here or mbworld that conventional 20w50 will prolong your engine life more so than any synthetic but I don't think there is any concrete proof on that theory...

(BTW put the 10w30 on craigslist for a reasonable price and I'm sure someone will buy it eventually)

i would use mobil1 10w40 high mileage (it';s synthetic) if i had a m119 in california. you can do 10k mile/1 year oil changes with that oil. if engine had over 200k miles than i would use mobil1 15w50. don't throw the 10w30 away, just mix it with the 10w40 when you do the oil change, it's perfectly fine.

EDIT: now i see you have 20qts of the 10w30, in the begining i misread for 2qts. either way, i would mix in the 10w30 you have with 15w50 with no worries. you will get a nice 40 weight oil that way, it would be 13w40:D. by the way i would mix 5 liters of mobil1 15w50 with 3 of the 10w30.

wow thanks i thought i had to throw away my 10w30 but i will just use it on my mazda to be safe :) but now what is the difference between 0w40 and 10w40 they are both 40 weight.

I always thought the first number, ie 10w, indicated the weight when the oil is cold. Don't quote me on it though.

Anyways, I've been using Mobil1 10w40 high mileage syn(car just hit 170k miles) and no leaks. Previous owner has 20w50 according to the service sheets. I do 7500 mile oil changes and the oil looks really good at 7500. I just change it as routine and for ease of mind. My only complaint is the oil pressure is lower than 1 when temp is 100-105 range on hot summer days in California. I read that was normal and the engine doesn't burn oil so I stuck with it.

my engine doesn't burn oil after 4,000miles the level is the at the same exact level as day one. and yeah on a hot summer day in california the oil pressure can drop lower then 1bar. the other day my gauge messed up for the pressure gauge it is showing 3bars when the pressure is at 1.5bar, shows 2.5 when at 3bar but at 3bar it also shows 3bars lol confused yet lol. i drove 50miles(no highway on streets at traffic) the other day and it was about 100 outside and the pressure gauge showed 0bars and 3bars but on the manual gauge it showed 1.2bars so i know my sending unit is bad.

yeah but mine is just a faulty sending unit trying to play mind tricks on me lol. the gauge is useless on my w140. we tested with manual gauges and it never went below 1.2bar. also 20 miles of driving in traffic at 65 degrees my actual oil pressure is at 1.8bars. my gauge speedo oil pressure gauge only works on the 2-3bars once it hits 1 bar the gauge goes crazy(goes to 0 then jumps to 3 but when i accelerate it goes to 2.5 at 1200rpm we used a scanning thing for tests that is how i know the rpm) i am going to replace the sending unit(at next oil change also doing the oil pan and cam oilers and valve cover gaskets :) about 150,000miles)
