I started my car and the message came up "check electronics". Then the engine light came on. The next time I started the car, shifting was rough, then check brake lining, ETS, ABS and Engine light came on. The car would not shift out of first gear (kind of tough to drive 18 miles in first gear to get home) and the speedometer would not work. Then all the lights went out and the transmition started to shift, speedometer started working and the car worked fine again. When I got home, I turned off the car and started it again, and all the idiot lights mentioned above came back on. Is my car computer having a bad day?? Any sugestions would GREATLY be appreciated. THanks, Chris.

I don't know. The car starts easily. I was thinking about disconnecting the battery just to reboot the computer. The car is a 1997 e300d.

Hook a scanner to the OBD port to see what it says.

You can get that "Check Electronics" message by doing something as simple as starting the engine before the glow plug lamp extinguishes.
