Well, here is what's wrong on top of all the other stuff that went wrong in the last couple of weeks:
1) my diesel 'diesels', i.e. will not shut off. However, I found a push rod disconnected from a square looking thingamajig on the driver side of the car.
2) my cruize control does not work

Any suggestions (other than 'get a new car')?

Don't give up on her yet!

The dieseling is due to no vacuum. Check your vacuum pump and vacuum lines to the engine. That's the comon problem with these things. The vacuum lines get brittle and break or they get disconnected somehow.

The cruise control also is a common problem. The actuator goes bad and draws too much current therefore blowing the output stage of the cruise control amplifier. There is a way to check the actuator. I forget what the site is though... go to www.mercedesshop.com and go to their forum and search cruise control. You can unplug the actuator from the car and apply voltate to the selenoid and the motor. My selenoid is fine but the motor is really bad. My bet is the actuator was bad and it blew out my amplifier too. I am not going to worry about it until I have to take a really long ass trip. If your actuator comes out OK then it's either the amplifier or the speed sensor (don't know where it is though...)

Another problem may be as simple as just having a brake light out. Have someone check the lights or push the pedal down while you look. The cruise control uses the brake lights to shut off when you brake.

Re: Oh, do I love my diesel marvel- UPDATE

The loose push-rod , I believe, actuates the cruise control (will test tomorrow). The BOOK (Hayes) says I have 'fault in fuel system cut-off solenoid'. Huh???????!!!???
Where is it? is it part of fuel injection pump??? how easy is it to replace??

HELP!!!

Re: Oh, do I love my diesel marvel- UPDATE

Yeah I saw that on mercedesshop.com Ron from germanstar suggested that to another guy on there. He said it's inexpensive, someone was describing it. It sounds like 2 hours work. But not sure. Someone on there would know better than me.
