Anyone know what the official (Mercedes/edmonds/autoweek/ect...) quoted 0-60 time was on S320/420/500/600? No one seems to keep records of this online.

1992:

1995:

Their 0-60 times seem odd to what people claim it is though...

Thanks for posting those two videos.

The only problem is that both videos really show how much of a tool that reviewer is - he failed to mention soft close doors! Which probably means he had no idea about the self-leveling suspension, the trunk lid handle, heated rear seats - pretty much everything he failed to show off!!!

TopGear is so much better at reviewing cars.

My 560 can get to 60 in the mid 7 sec. My (sold) S500c would get to 60 under 7 sec. I guess weather, road condition would make a difference.

Thanks for the TV reviews. That is just what I was looking for. Ahh, the wonderful recording power of the VHS tape!!

Are there any reviews of the 97-99 S class? Did it test the same as the 95 or was it slightly faster? My car feels like it can rocket a whole lot faster then 8 seconds to 60 MPH, however I've never timed it. The TV review over in the W221 section says that a stock S550 can hit 60 in just 4 seconds. Half the time!

No difference,

I have owned an S280, S320 and S500 all of which were 96 onwards and in stock form they go as described.

I have set out above the official figures which relate to model years 97 onwards and which are easy to convert to 0-60 times which would be as follows:-

320 8.54secs

420 7.96 secs

500 7.00 secs

600 6.33 secs

Well it won't. It won't even get close to that, inertia will see to it. Tell you what though, there's a guy here, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6AUnyRBqRc&feature=related), I reckon he knocked 60 out in about 6 dead and 100 in about 13. Add a few percent for the speedo being inaccurate and call it maybe 6.3 and 13.7? Still as fast as hell.

What 600 sel indicates (measurment of below 6 s) is much lower than the offical info, I think.

Have several magazines from 91-92 (when my car was born) and they quote between 6.1 and 6.6 as factory figures (for 600SEL).

I measured mine just once, completely by chance (and normally I do not speed at take off), and had ca 6.3s (the car is 18 yrs old!). But to get such a result you have to have a start without ASR blinking. :)

I heard, that in the real life you can always get a bit better result than factory if you are a good driver. The measurements in the factory are not "on empty car", but rather with certain typical amount of fuel, passengers of certain weight (to simulate for real life) etc... Also when you start with higher revs you may also get a fraction of second, and so on.

Also please take into account that 0-60 MPH is only 0-96 km/h. And I talk about 0-100 km/h. This may look funny, but the 4km/h roughly add ca 0,3 s at this level. :p

Thanks for the input. As I sit here typing I am reading the June,1992, Car and Driver. (red honda crx on the cover) It states:

0-30; 2.3
0-40; 3.2
0-50; 4.3
0-60; 5.7

0-100; 14.1
0-150; 42.8

standing 1/4 mile; 14.2 @101 m.p.h.

402 [email protected] rpm
[email protected] rpm
redline 6000 rpm
I think the torque is what gets us there so fast. Most cars the torque is less then the HP. I should you tube my dash as that needle moves to 60 REALLY FAST

Ok, we have a handful of info for the V12, but how about the V8 models?

We S420/S500 owners need to know how fast were launching too :D
