Alrighty, the rear shelf is complete - the newly re-vinyled quarterpanels fit perfectly, which was a relief. The chrome covers on top of B pillars didn’t cause any collision with the soft top cover either - a second yippee!!! :D

The soft top handle with a new vinyl pad works perfectly as well. (y)

One last look at the metal floor… I hope I won’t be seeing it again any time soon 🙏

The grand finale - carpet on the rear shelf was washed, of course, and fitted with the original first aid kit. Just like the tool kit and the car jack, here’s hoping I never have to use it 😄 Happy Friday folks, it’s almost beer time. 🍻

Here we go, it was very satisfying to build the “carpet sandwich” and hide the metal floor 😄

Next the rubber door sills - I was very lucky to get a pair before they became NLA. Then the metal sill guards, seat chrome covers and voila!

I also took apart the mirrors in order to spray the frames, polish the chrome covers and clean / grease the internals - now both of them work silky smooth, whereas previously they were a bit “jumpy”.

Other than that I’m pretty much finished with Eleanor, I took some more pics which I’ll post later as I need to copy them from the camera first.

So, some sample pics taken yesterday - almost there, but not quite yet - and when it's all over I'll take Eleanor for a proper "golden hour" photo shoot. That said I went for a nice spin last night, boy I missed that feeling! She's an incredible creature, drove just a little bit over 120km/h on the motorway and nothing fell off 😄 At any rate, for proper high res pics go here 1979 Mercedes 450SL.

Thank you gents.

Graeme, it's just like in the old book - it rains for 6 days, and on the 7th day the sun comes out :p;)

Wow! Eleanor looks fantastic! You have done incredible work, and have not overlooked a single detail. Eleanor is very lucky to have you as her owner.

Thanks Carl and Benztag, appreciated - slowly but surely we're getting there. Not finished just yet, after taking her for a spin I still need to adjust both side glasses as the tops don't fully match with the seals. Defo a PIA job but I want to get it right.

@benztag - I don't see myself as her owner, more like her partner - she's a wild creature that one, and cannot be tamed😁🤣

Thanks lads! Graham, you made me chuckle - now the steering wheel is on the right side, why would I move it to the wrong side? 🤣 🤣

By the way - does anyone have a Becker Mexico Cassette radio in their car? I came across a sexy looking one and I consider upgrading.

It’s been a while, and I’m taking my time putting the finishing touches. I’m pretty sure I’m suffering from classic projectitis, meaning I subconsciously don’t want to see this journey through as I’m afraid of what life looks like in the post project world 🤔🤣 at any rate I finally picked up the repainted door handles and a new spoiler from MB - Eleanor is now all set for the many miles over the next sunny days ☀😂🚗 Enjoy the weekend folks!

Don't be concerned - upgrade projects NEVER end.

Right you are Graham, but intensivity does change... The last few months were crazy in terms of hours / effort, now that the respray is done I feel like I have retired 😅

BS, get out and enjoy it (when it stops raining )
I've only ever done a complete resto once in my life, 40 years ago
Loved the outcome, the car was brilliant, but the time... geesus
Won't be doing that again
More completed pics of your car please Mikolaj (y)
