Is it worth replacing the OEM differential covers on my 2010 G550 with aftermarket covers if I plan on doing some fairly serious off-roading? I'd rather not shell out for the aftermarket covers but they do seem to afford more protection for what I will be doing than the OEM covers that are presently on the car.

Thanks,
Alex

I'm not aware of aftermarket diff covers, but I can't see them helping much. To be honest, I haven't seen a lot of breakage of the factory setup. The only damaged cover was pushed out from inside. A chunk of locker tooth fell into the carrier bearings knocking a roller loose. That got between the ring and pinion. Lots of wreckage.

What would help would be a "chin" welded on around the lower edge of the cover. Can't sell that out of an online store, so not a popular item.

Thanks for the response! I ended up going with a couple VTS differential covers. Having examined them, they are definitely sturdier than the OEM covers on my G now
