Anyone know how odometer readings are captured? Lower engine wiring harness play a roll?

Odometer doesn't work and I don't believe it's a cluster gear.

Not confident in my lower engine wiring harness, however.

Thanks!

no, lower harness has nothing to do with odometer. signals (voltage) come from abs sensor ... left front i guess but i am not sure if this is true for all models.

actually not. upper wire harness is for coolant temp sensor, injectors, advanced timing solenoids air mass sensor and camshaft sensor. ABS sensor has its own harness and there is pretty big round black plastic connector near the firewall for it. there are two of such connectors of course for left and right wheel. So from this connectors signals go to modules I guess (ABS module, ASR module, etc.) and to the cluster. I am not sure if signal goes directly from ABS sensor to the cluster or it is processed in the modules (computers) at the right fender, and then into the cluster. I can check my diagrams.

Thanks again!

Yes, please check your diagrams when convenient.

Please also let me know if you see anything regarding which wheel's ABS sensor is used for the ODO.

That said, if an ABS sensor is bad, must they all be replaced or just the failed one?

here is pdf file with relevant electrical diagram. i am a total amateur in this area however I can see that data from abs left front sensor are processed in the ABS (ASR) module and then a processed signal is sent to the cluster (speedometer). As one can see the N22 (HVAC control module), idle speed control module and some other components also play a role in this algorithm. it is not clear to me why so, so i hope somebody else with more practice in this issue will explain the situiation. I have replaced both front abs sensors but that's all what i did regarding this topic.
