Speedometer Vehicle Odometer Gauge Car

My OCD kicked in this evening when I noticed some odd (to me) markings on the speedometer. I am unable to find any references in BW on in the manual where the instrument cluster picture shows the markings as well
The only thing that comes to mind might be marks to represent German or European speed limits of some sort
I have seen shift points on other Benz models but that I can see these marks being max points for first and second on any 107 surely?

Had my previous 450SL at the track. Main straight starts at the bottom of a hill. Kicked it into passing gear at 55. At the top of the hill, I was doing somewhere around 100mph and the trans hadn't shifted back into high. It probably would have shifted up at about 105, if I hadn't taken my foot out of it. Sometimes the trans (the driver? Nah) just doesn't think about those marks. :D:D

Whatever its is its a 4 speed. 300SL manual 4 speed?
All 1954 - 1963 300 SLs had only the 4-speed manual transmission. The picture is of a 1956 300 SL with 3.42:1 differential. The 180 mph speedometers were supplied for the 3.42:1 and the 3.25:1 rears. Cars equipped with 3.64:1, 3.89:1 and 4.11:1 gears received the 160 mph or 270 km speedometer heads depending upon the intended point of delivery.

There was also a 300 km speedometer head which appeared in the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupes, but its use in the production 300 SL has not been documented.

Rudolf Uhlehaut kept one of the two 300SLR hybrids when the Mercedes Racing team was disbanded after the LeMans fire
It's reported it could do close to 290 kmh with it's 3 litre straight 8, which made it the fastest road car at the time
Scary speed in a car that old
But beautiful
