My 87 190D's paint is sun faded to the primer. I need to get it painted. I have little money. I'm thinking about painting it with OD Green spray primer and giving it that bad a** Matte look. What do you guys think?

That could look cool I guess. But I think you are better off saving money untill you can get it properly painted.

matte looks good. Just do a good job at it. Make sure the surface is smooth and clean before spraying. tape up the parts you don't want matte. If you decide/choose to go that route, good luck and have fun with the project.

I was thinking about doing the same thing with my 2.3 16v. But a matte black finish. That stealth look. I've seen it on brand new Ferrari, benz, Bentley and all that. I've seen it on pretty much every make. Its a great look, especially on a lowered car.

only matte job i've ever seen that looked good was a flat black 1970 turbo charged nova, when you turned off the lights at night the car disappeared...

I don't understand the "sun faded to the primer" ?......If it's faded use some colour restorer, how can the sun remove the paint down to the primer?....I'm not having a pop, just curious...maybe it's another one of those differences in wording ?:)

it's cool shaune, here in the states if a PO doesn't take care of the car with the standard wash/wax for some reason or another the clear coats breaks down and allows the UV rays to penetrate to the original gloss coat, if this isn't treated right away it eventually leaches out the color of the paint, leaving you a dusty film color that is covered by a brittle clear coat.

i dont think green looks good especially matt green especially on a older car. I found with these older benzes, some shiny colour will bring it out and make it look a lot newer. Matt will make it look old especially green.. like a old green shitty caddilac. or thats just me.

I wouldn't paint it matte green with spray paint. Save your money and take it to Maaco. I think their low end paint jobs start around $300.00 which isn't bad. It would look a heck of a lot better than matte green. Too bad Earl Scheib is out of business because he would paint any car for just $99.95.

macco 300 jobs are crap, they jus paint and dont do much prep, they usually show signs of blemishes from the oe paint.
