I was wondering - if I take a brand new Bosch O2 3-wire sensor, hook up the 12-volt heater and the sensor wire, and shove it up the tailpipe a few feet, should its output track the behavior of the one under the passenger seat? I was thinking this might be a good way to tell, once and for all, if the installed one is good or not.

Thanks,

Tom S.

No because you are getting post cat behavior...

A new o2 sensor is ~$40 if you splice it in...its not worth the time diagnosing.

O2 replacement

I do have the replacement part - but I also have a bad back and am reluctant to do the physical s#!7 to replace it without being 100% sure that's the problem :)

Tom

O2 sensors have a general service life of approximately 60M miles. That would vary depending on how well the fuel/air/ignition system of the car was maintained.

Your best move is to replace the sensor.

I too have a bad back, my neck is screwed together. It's not that bad of a job and you can use your foot to loosen the sensor.
