When driving back to college my O2 Sensor light came up on my dash. I know that it controls the balance between the oxygen and fuel that goes into my engine which could cause my car to run rich or lean which will cause my MPG to suffer till I get it fixed but I was wondering if there are any other affects of a faulty O2 sensor. Thanks guys.

Just the detriments that come with running rich/lean, may get fouled plugs if it runs too rich, or you may burn a valve if it runs lean for too long.

the O2 light is controlled by a mileage counter which knows nothing about the actual status of the sensor. the control box is located under the RH passenger floor, the slanted firewall portion, and is accessible from the interior. there is a reset button on the small control box. in my case the unit would not reset, so i disconnected the box which turned off the light. the actual health of the O2 sensor is monitored by the on board computer and the check engine light is set if the computer sees a problem. i think the O2 light was installed to meet some regulation somewhere.
