I got a call from a friend of mine, who needed to change the Oil on his Maserati.

Hmmmm, I always thought that Mercedes dealers were out to screw the customer.... but WOW!, Maserati puts them to shame!

The Dealer wanted $1,400 to do a simple oil change.

No, this model does NOT have the type of Ferrari motor which requires *REMOVAL* of the entire engine, just for an oil change... the Bill on that bad-boy is between Eight and Ten... THOUSAND Dollars!!

So, a simple Drain Plug, Spin-Off filter, and re-fill got him on his way at pennies on the dollar..... Hey, maybe I should start Charging for Admission?? Ha Ha!

Now I feel Lucky to own a Benz...

Just a word on Jiffy Lube. There is a video on YouTube about a scam reporters reported where they marked various parts and asked for services that were not done but still charged.

Take a look!

Btw, Guam is rare with Maserati's although there is a beautiful white two door coupe somewhere here owned by one of the wealthy families. I wonder where he will have his oil done. Absolutely no one does this kind of car here.

Agreed. Surely your friend misunderstood that dealer?
No, no misunderstanding...

He also had a local Indie give him a "Deeply Discounted" rate of $500.

It is literally a 10 min Oil change.

Remove 5 screws which hold the "diaper", and the plug and filter are right there.

O.K. thanks for elaborating G-AMG. I didn't intend to insult your friend's intelligence, it's just so hard to believe.

Thanks for clarifying as I too was thinking your friend misunderstood. Was there any other service inspections added to the "magical oil" being used? :confused:Did you use Mobil 1?

Maybe the mechanic must wear Ralph Laurent white lab coat, Louis Vuitton white gloves, Polo cap, Bally shoes to service the car. If the outfits get dirty, they must be dry cleaned or replaced, never washed. So $1400 is $100 for oil change plus the ancillary cost.

Ha! Funny you mention that.... for my friend DID demand I wear Mink-Lined Jacket and Gloves, prior to starting the work...

The car ended up unscathed.... but for me in the 100 Deg heat, was another matter. Per your suggestion, I will dispose of them immediately, and re-order (on my friend's tab, of course!)

Did your friend recall if the garage floor was marble and they had a very attractive cashier to handle the cash register?
Rich people's time is extremely valuable. A rich man making $50M/year is making $24,000/hour. They got no time to take their car to the shop or tell the chauffeur to do it. I heard Rolls Royce service was the most expensive, a team of mechanics come to the owner's home.

oil change

Why is this so hard to believe? We are, after all, living in 21st century America, where honesty is in very short supply. If you can find an indie shop where the people are trustworthy (as I have), life is a lot easier.

I had never heard that but I believe you. What I do remember learning was that Rolls have a locked hood and only dealer authorized techs have the proper key.
