Waiting on parts, so I’m replacing some O Rings in my AC system while waiting. It is still set up for R12, 84 380sl. Does an O Ring go in this connection? There was not one in there when I disassembled. The system held a vacuum for about 30 minutes.
Other question, do I have the low and high side ports marked correctly in the picture?

It’s on order. Gotta wait a week for any parts unfortunately

so my picture is wrong? The one I have marked low appears to go to the compressor

You can't add freon to the high side since there is no suction. Freon has to be sucked into the system on the low side usually at a Schrader valve between the TXV/orfice tube and the compressor.

Thanks for the replies. I understand you add at on the low side. I’ve done my bronco and Camaro which are 134. Easy on those as the ports are different sizes and have colored caps haha.

I don’t see a big difference in hose sizes, which is why I posted the picture. Figured someone would say that’s right or no that’s backwards.

Try screwing your recharge hose on, it'll only fit one, the size difference is subtle, but obvious when you try to connect to it.
Suction lines are usually larger diameter than high side lines as well.

MBang I’m not Sure why you feel the need to keep being rude to me, I’m learning my way around this car. This forum has been a huge help so far. If you think my “dumb” questions are a waste of times don’t give them any.

Cant really tell from these pictures but it does appear to be backwards. Low side is the larger hose going from the fire wall to the compressor. High side is the smaller hose going from the receiver drier to the hire wall.

Thanks Roncallo. As suggested I did more tracing and looking in the encyclopedia and was thinking that was the case.
Getting the car back from a soft to install today, will try and charge this weekend. Then in tk the timing chain the weekend after hopefully.

Did some research on Nylog. I didn't realize there was a blue and red version. I edited my last post to show the two versions. Apparently Nylog red is for R12 CHC systems and they don't list a Nylog for R134a HFC systems.

This article list Nylog blue for R134a systems.

Therefore if your staying with R12, use Nylog red. If you change later you might be screwed.
