The question about how many Gwagens Europa sold in the US has come up several times. I found a website that may provide a little insight into this question.

In February 2001, they issued a USDOT Safety Recall on all Europa Gwagens from Sept 1992 through February 2001 for problems with labeling on the automatic transmissions.

This is for all Gwagen models imported by Europa from 9/1992 - 2/2001.

Number of units affected = 473

that a little strange...

because i thought they sold about 250 g500's a year in 1999 and 2000 (at the peak of their market). I think this info's been posted before... can't remember by who though.

The second recall. This one is only for the 2000 G500, so ewalberg, you were right (Its only for the 2000 because I search the surrounding years and only the transmission recall came up):

The second recall. This one is only for the 2000 G500, so ewalberg, you were right (Its only for the 2000 because I search the surrounding years and only the transmission recall came up):
It includes 1999's (see below) and early 2000 models. Those 2000 models sold after the date of the recall were fixed and didn't require the recall. My 2000 G500, which was sold in October is not included; as it was fixed in house prior to being sold after the recall date.

Make : EUROPA Model : GWAGEN Year : 1999
Build Dates : 19981001 - 20000331
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 00V188000
Date Owner's Notified: 20000725 Date Received by ODI: 20000710 Date Added to Databse: 20000712
Manufacturer's Involved: EUROPA INTERNATIONAL, INC.
Manufacturer's Responsible for the Recall: EUROPA INTERNATIONAL, INC.
Manufacturer Campaign Number:
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 220
Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. IMPROPER SEATING OF THE ROLLOVER VALVE CAN ALLOW FUEL LEAKAGE.
Consequence:
IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE ROLLOVER, FUEL LEAKAGE COULD OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A FIRE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ROLLOVER VALVE.
Report Initiator: MFR Vehicles Report
Regulation Part Number: Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number:
Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION
Therefore, the number of fuel system recalls (dated July 2000) is smaller than the number included in the transmission recall, as the tranny recall didn't happen until after (March 2001) they sold their 1999 and 2000 models; and it does include back to the model year 1992.

FWIW, there was a seat belt recall on Europa G500's in 1999 which affected up to 22 vehicles.

So, the actual numbert of Europa G500's is greater than 220 and less than 473. [8)]
