It's an interesting idea, I've seen premium domestic auto pads with a similar "sandwich" of materials integrally bonded to the brake pad backing plate itself (probably Viton due to the extreme heat).

This product might be a good option for cars where you can't get anything like that.

Your car could have similar thing installed in the factory. It was not as "high tec" as Nu-lok but IMO, I am sure it does identical thing for much less money.
p/n = A0004230061 (rear)
EPC does not show the same thing for front brakes on 560SL but 450 does have them (p/n =0004210196 for 450)

On a OT side:
Does your car have 4 pots or is it a 2 pot with floating caliper at the front?
I always thought it was a 4 pot but now that I have looked at EPC, it looks as 2 pot floater

My bet is that on a 560SL, if you use those, you wont be able to get the pads in with new rotors. A lot of cars come with something similar already installed on the pad. or as clip ons.
