No, not a commentary on any one individual. My 1979 280SL (euro) has developed a sputter. It sounds like it is not firing on one cylinder. Rough idle, poor acceleration, etc. I have removed all 6 spark plugs; all fine. I put each plug wire on an ohm meter. Proper resistance. The distributor cap and rotor like worn so I have replacements on the way. Would appreciate all thoughts on what else it may be and how to check.

BTW, just rebuilt the a/c compressor and replaced the water pump so I am eager to on the road.

Another thing that can happen is a vapor locked injector. Crack the injector lines at fuel distributor one by one then retighten and see if misfire goes away.

Have the valves ever been adjusted? My M110 came alive after adjusting valves, replacing plugs, cap, rotor, and installing Kingsborne plug wires. Good Luck

Sounds like ignition. Get your cap and rotor replaced and then make sure that your plug wires are seated properly.

Had a similar problem. All spark plug wires checked out ok with an Ohm meter but after driving the car for a while on the weekends it would develop a rough idle, etc. After replacing everything else - distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, ignition coil, injectors/seals- decided to replace the spark plug wires. Engine runs fine ever since. My wires where still original to the car but showed no cracking or any other visual damage. Ended up buying Kingsborne spark plug wires. Very satisfied.

Sounds like what mine is doing. I might give this a try.

BTW, the Kingsborne page's search function doesn't find the wire set for the 560SL. I dug through and found it here.

Just had the exact same issue. Went thro all the same stuff.
Seemed to have spark and the plugs were wet. The car was firing on 4 out of 8 cylinders.
Found there was a vapour lock in the injectors, cracked them and hey presto she’s firing on all 8 just like that
