chasing info for 2005 amg e55, since new my benz seems to have a whining sound coming from the motor, its at its worst at start up, but is still there even after it warms up, we have removed the main drive belt, but its still there, im assured by the dealer that this is normal, but to me it doent sound normal, we have tried different, types and weights of oils, this seems to make a difference, but the noise is still there, im wondering if any one else has had this problem, i love the car but the noise is driving me crazy, hope you can help, the noise has been there from day one to now with 30,000 klms

the noise is normal.

many people dismiss the whine as the supercharger but i believe it's the piston oil squirters...which would be consistant with the fact that you said changing the weight of the oil makes a difference. if it is the oil squirters the whine should decreased with a thinner viscosity, such as going from the 0-40 to a 15-50.

regardless, it is normal and you shouldn't let it bother you.

No problem all, compressors engines have that noise. If you have had any Mercedes that has had the power steering pump go bad, it is the same sound. Sounds like a vane pump run dry. Don't worry it is OK.
