My 01 E320 keeps having this knocking sound coming from the B pillar on the driver's side.

It happens when you go over a bump and it is a low thud - sounds like the door is not properly shut or as if the door is moving on its latches. It sounds as though someone gives a knock on your door panel with his knuckles while you are seated in the car - that kind of low thud.

Has anyone experienced any such noise from this area? Is there anything in the B pillar/seat belt mechanism that will make such a noise? I plan to open up the panel any tips or suggestions?

the B pillar is in the middle of the car, between the doors.

A pillar is the windshield support, c pillar is rear window support.

Id imagine it has to do with the seat belt, as mine makes a very mild creak over rough roads.

It could also be a loose door panel.

take someone else in the car, and have them sit in the back with their ear to the pillar and see what happens.

I have the same issue, but from the right side (B or C pillar, I cannot tell).
Can it be something inside the rear door?
