So you know the Bilstein reference book is WRONG on replacement HD shocks, and gives incorrect part#'s, so I strongly suggest you do more detailed research before you order specific part#'s in to do the job since you don't want to end up very very frustrated.

There is a search feature at the top of this forum, use "shocks" and wade thru all the available info including this post:

Thoroughly Confused

After reading Fabris response, I was confused. But, I crave the knowledge to better my Benz. I think I got it.

Bilstein HD shocks for standard OEM spring height

Part# B36-2156-HO Fronts
Part# BE3-A056-HO Rears

Bilstein Sport shocks for lowered spring height

Part# BE3-AO57-HO Fronts
Part# BE3-AO58-HO Rears

This is the Bilstein recommendation. However, this will make your ride appear to "nose dive". Installation should be reversed to "level" the ride height.

I hope this helps.. And thx Fabbris for the heads up.

On the HD shocks, yes the Bilstein reference is wrong - rears are listed as fronts, and fronts are listed as rears, that was well documented by Heindrich:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210-e50-amg-e55-amg/1451023-confirming-bilstein-hd-shock-absorbers.html

It can be "assumed" the Sports are similarly reversed, but that is a assumption. I would suggest a PM to Mark Cummins ort checking on his source for the Euro shocks referenced in the post in my original reply.

As to the OP's comments thaty "many" E55 owners run H&R lowered springs, I really feel that is a minority.

On lowering, I would really suggest deeper investigation especially when it comes to rear camber.

There have been members who have done the full job, and I would suggest sending them a PM to get the full scoop.

On any W210 E55 with sunstantial mileage, lets say over 80K, I would strongly suggest the front ball joints get checked first as well. Fresh front ball joints will do a LOT to help front end control especially on the lowered suspension.

Keep the faith !

Normally, at milage its the worn front end components that give the "roughness" - the OE shocks (HD equivalent) without damage/defect are good way-way out - its the front end components that wear first, easy to check up on a rack for play.

OEM E55 are Bil HD? WOW! I take it back, seriously. I've used them on other cars with H&R and they were pretty brutal.
