I have an 1996 E320 with 75,000 miles on it. I randomly lose my speedo, odometer and cruise. I can't figure out what triggers this. All warning lights come on at startup. No warning lights come on when the loss occurs. The items come back on just as they went off - randomly. Everything else works fine. I've read the posts about the brake light switch replacement, but I'm having a real problem removing the access panel below the steering wheel. I think I need a special screw driver or nut driver to take out the screw nearest the center console.

Any help or advice would be great. This is an amazing forum and community.

Cheers

Brake switch can not cost something like it.
Sounds like you have bad connection somewhere. Might be behind the cluster, or maybe on ignition circuit.
I would start with checking the plugs under the steering wheel.

No speedo...

Thank you.

I'll pull the panels under the steering wheel and check all the connections. Do you think there are any special fuses I need to check.

I do believe it is a minor electrical problem because there are no warning lights, the transmission is fine, the car is excellent. This problem occurs an odd times for no reason I can see.

Thanks again

This might be good time to subscribe to one of the sites that offers electrical diagrams and repair manuals.
You might be the fist one with such problem and it sucks to "break the ice". Good luck.
