Hey,
Recently there had been a really bad thunderstorm in my area and I had no choice but to use my 1994 E220 to commute. Now that the weather had dried up a bit, the car had developed a new problem.
When I steer more (e.g. for parking), the car would make this really loud noise as if a bearing is badly lubricated or metal parts are rubbing against one another.
I suspect this might be due to the rain crashing onto the steering column and bringing some lubricants with it, hence the noise.
Does anyone have any ideas with this problem? What should I look for? What can I do to cure this. This is really embarrassing because that noise is so loud and squeaky.

Thanks in advance for any info,
Jeff

I suspect your power steering reservoir is low on fluid.Top it up and expect the noise to disappear just as quickly as the thunderstorm did.

I think those clever boys at Mercedes Benz anticipated we might sometimes have to drive our cars in the rain and have engineered around the problem.
