When I open the driver's door, the interior lights don't come on -- they work fine with when I open the passenger door. This has happened once before and the problem went away by itself. Note: if I leave the headlight on, the buzzer will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated! By the way, I own a 93 500SL.

Hi, I have the same problem on my 2000 SL600. Just changed the overhead console, dealer said it was bad. That did not fix the problem. I searched the forum and it seems like a N2/4 Seat Belt warning relay goes bad. I am trying to find it, but I do not know where it is located.

Do you mean the overhead/map light or the footwell light?

Al, I've got a line drawing of the relay locations for my '99SL500 if you think that might help you. File is too large for uploading here, need your email address if you'd like me to send it to you. Send PM if you do

Interior light

I remember reading a post by "Bob Terry" regarding this issue and how to fix or replace it. I also seem to recall if can be fixed very inexpensively.

I think you may find your answer if you search his posts.

Good luck!

Light control location

Hi Odora, the bit that provides the delay is in the light unit itself up by the centre mirror, looking at the diagram. Even has a warning buzzer, not sure what for. Not played with it myself... Dont forget the simplest one of the door switch itself!
Al, N2/4 looks like its by the Airbag, sitting on a rail, may be a bit hard to get to see without removing the bag (follow precautions!) Not sure if this would cause this problem.

I removed the passenger airbag cover today and looked very hard all around it and behind it. Also, took out the air duct, but still could not find the N2/4 relay. It is not mounted on the metal rail support either.

Do you think the newer SL's have the relay at a different location? My car is 2000 SL600. I have the green connector and white connector next to green one. I see mounting hole for N2/4 relay, just not there??

So far, I have replaced two relays under each seat, switches and new overhead console. My car is all taken apart and I would really like to get it fixed. I am pretty sure it is the N2/4 seat belt warning relay. Just have to find it now.

Thanks

Thanks for everyone's feedback! Does anyone have a part number for the Seat Belt Warning Module (N2/4)?

I don't know where the relay is on your car, but I also don't think it has anything to do with your problem. I believe newer R129s have the door switches wired in parallel and that your problem would have to be the driver's door switch or wiring.

Thanks for the reply. The door switches are new, so let me check the wiring. I thought the switches send signal to the N2/4 relay, which turned the lights on, that is why I was looking for it. I think you are right, my car does not have this relay, I have looked everywhere for it.

Neither door switch will turn on the lights. Do you know where the switch wires go? There is a relay which clicks in the fuse box, I have also replaced it.

Al, your car has the N4/2 module -- it just isn't part of the interior lighting circuits. The circuits are very simple on your car. One side of each footwell light is wired to the door switches, and the other side is wired to fuse #14.

The relay you hear in the fusebox is the K24 relay that supplies power to the seat control modules.

I traced all the wires today and found a small red wire under driver side carpet broken from green connector. A simple solder and it was fixed. All lights now work.

Thank you everybody for all the help and info.

Al

Al -- where exactly did you find the bad connection? Did you have to remove the driver's seat?
Thanks!
