Hi guys, I have been doing some searching and research on this board and I found out that the CD slot under the nav screen is not for music but for the navigation, and that the CD changer in the back is for music.. Well I checked my trunk and I don't see any openings in the fabric for a CD changer.. the only openings I see is for the tail light bulbs.. does this mean my car can't play CD music?

Thanks!

Well I clicked the CD button on the navi and it says no magazine, so maybe I have a changer.. but did mercedes really install one without an opening to access it? Do I have to take down the trunk lining to get to it?!

No, you don't. Its location should be shown in your COMAND Manual. If you don't have one, the Encyclopedia you are now familiar with has a section on where you can download them (the '01 manual online will be essentially the same as your '00). It also has a section on troubleshooting CDCs. This is the fourth time I have referenced you to the Encyclopedia. You really should spend some time with it.

Also, the phone bulletins at Phone Bulletins show you where it is located.

Thank you for your help. So are you saying the changer can be in different locations? Because my trunk is smooth.. I will go ahead and check the encyclopedia again but as I mentioned earlier I tried clicking the link in it for the manual but it just brought me to a generic MB website which I didn't see anything that looked like it had to do with manuals.

Well I found the changer.. you have to remove the corner of the trunk mat and it's on the bottom left side.. but my magazine is missing.. do you know which one I need to replace it with? Thanks!

Indeed. Mercedes keeps fooling with their site, making the maintaining of a direct link to the owner's online or to the manuals download pages nearly impossible. Go to their site, join "Owners Online" (it's free) and you can access many of the manuals.

However, you needed to reference the COMAND manual, as I said and it's not on the MB site. It's in the link in the Encyclopedia, and the link works.

It's an Alpine 6-disc magazine; the dealer sells them at an outrageous price with a Mercedes part number. You may find one at an audio store (I have seen them at Best Buy on occasion). I do not have an Alpine part or model designation. The number you can barely see in the right hand photo below is different on each of the Alpine magazines I have, so it's no use.

Thanks again Sky, my buddy owns a big stereo shop here in LA and he told me the same thing. He said he gets them online for $18 each and he has a used one right now he is going to give me tomorrow.
