I thought it was a simple question, but since I appear to have stuck out on the Detailing site, I thought I'd bring my question to the 220 site since I am a recent owner of a '02 S430. Love the car. Hard to tell it is already 7 years old. I'd like to keep it looking new by enriching the shine. My question is are Mercedes typically clearcoated from the factory. It will make a difference in what product I buy to clean/wax the car.

yes, most cars made in the past 20 years are clearcoated, including your 02 s430.

So any layer(s) you take off by polishing will be the clear coat. If you have not done this before, go with the softest polish compound and be careful not to burn the edges.
