Hey - I am new the forum and I am a first time Mercedes owner. I love older cars and ran accross a 1974 450sl in real good shape and had to have it. I have an issue that i need some help on. I did a search without any luck.

It won't start! If I take the wire off what I think is the coil resistor and go straight to coil it starts. If i take it off the coil it dies. I can touch the the coil, start it and then put it back on the resistor quickly and it will run fine? I replaced the reistor with an aftermarket piece (all i had at the time) but it still does the same thing??

Heres a wiring diagram of the ignition system on your car. Maybe it'll help.

You probably should invest in a manual, either paper of CD. These cars aren't like any older US cars you might have worked on.

Good luck and welcom to BW.

Thanks for the info. I may try to pickup another resistor and try that.

Thanks
