I have always wanted to own a merc, and I am in a position to acquire a really clean 92 190E 4 cyl with under 90k miles. Before I buy, could you guys give me some pointers on any problem areas I should pay paricular attention to? I am a mechanic, so I do most of my maintenance myself. Also, since I am not a big fan of woodgrain dash panels, is there anywhere I can purchase plastic panels to replace them with?
Thanks!!

why would you want to replace the woodgraind man? they make our cars what they are lol anyways try bitrim.com i dunno if they do plastic but its worth a shot.

anyways common problem with these cars are air compressors going, i know of some vacuum hose problems (someone might want to elaborate i dont know much about this issues), poor lighthing all around the car (headlights interior lighting, its just 1 dome light actually) and i know most of these cars leak oil for no particular reason lol i had my head gasket switched out over a month ago because it was leaking oil and my car still leaks oil, so dont be too worried about that.

aside from those problems these cars really are built solid :) i cant speak for the earlier models but i have a 93 myself and i must say i am very pleased :) well hope this helps enjoy ;p
