Hi All -
I am thinking about buying a 67 250SE convertible. I love the look of the W111 ragtop. The car I'm looking at seems reasonably well maintained by a private collector. As I'm new to this, any advice or suggestions on what to look for before buying are appreciated. Thanks.

Check for rust! Especially in the trunk spare tire wells, rocker panels and the headlight areas. Every car this age has been damaged at some time, so carefully check for cheap, unprofessional body repair with bondo. What is the condition of the top? Even if the folding mechanism is in good operating condition, a new top along with interior lining and padding is going to set you back around $3k. A new engine long block will cost you around $5K, not including removal/installation labor. Almost every 111 has to have its mounting rubber replaced i.e., motor * transmission mounts, front & rear suspension mounts, drive shaft suspension a& coupling. Everything on a 111 is available but expensive!
