G'day all,

Not a Mog owner yet but working out the details on a nice 1300l ambulance. The quality and quantity of vehicles seems really high at the moment.

Mog in question is an '87 with fast axles and om366a turbo engine, that aside it seems like a text book standard machine.

All going well, next may will be in germany to collect, service and begin my adventure. The exact path is not yet planned but it looks like this at the moment: germany, poland, ukraine, russia, kazakhstan, china, hong kong, philipines.

I estimate that this will be a 15,000km trip and i am hoping 250km is an attainable daily rate of progress. This trip is not so much about the destinations as it about the journey to collect something i have always wanted and the fun/challange of bringing her home.

There will not be an internal refit for this trip so the ambulance box and a swag will be sleeping quarters when suitable motel is not available.

To the Mog people, what is the obvious spare parts list for a Mog on a journey like this? I will not be undertaking any really rought stuff, trying to keep the 1st trip as straight forward as possible.

The owner implies that he gets 800km out of the 160l tank, is that about right?

What sort of price would you expect to pay for a 16/24 speed transmission and what would the 8 speed sell for?

Great forum guys thanks for the help.

Welcome to Benzworld, if you are planning on traveling through China speak to the Chinese embassy first.

Thanks, have spoken to the embasy. While helpfull with the visa, couldnt help at all with the vehicle. They said i have to contact a travel agent in china and get a vehicle permit. I see your in china, is that a difficult thing to aquire? Its not MY visa that i am uncertain about, its getting the vehicle through, not my 1st china trip so i am familiar with that process.

I was also thinking of doing a bit of paint work to "funk it up" for the trip and make her look a lot less military and a lot more civilian. It was suggested that this may make passage through kazakhstan and china easier?

Is diesel supply still any issue in regional china and how many yuan per litre is typical? I could fill a couple of 44's in kazakhstan before i enter china, i believe diesel is about 50c US a litre in kazakhstan.

Thanks Eric

Getting the vehicle into China and then across the border to Hong kong will need permits for both countries even though Hong Kong belongs to China it is one country two systems and the paperwork is complicated so contact a travel agent asap.

The vehicle must NOT look like a military vehicle or you will be stopped every province you enter, a real pain in the butt:D

I am not sure of the price of diesel here but I know all fuels are cheap compared to Europe.

bad ass vehicles, i would definitely have an MB dealer fully service it the trip between east europe through Asia as there wouldn't be many if any places who could service it.

I really want to do the Gumball 3000 but really don't want to be hijacked
