I am considering the purchase of a 1974 450SL that has been sitting outdoors for several years. There are several visible areas of rust and the car will be essentially a restoration project for me(restoration to a clean, original, driver). I have restored other cars, porsche, chevrolet, dodge, but never a mercedes. Other than the model year changes, what is the primary difference between 450, 380, and other SL models? This car has 143K miles, needs a complete interior, several small dent repairs, has poor hood and trunk alignment, and needs to be stripped to the metal and repainted. Assuming that rust is a minor problem and the mechanicals are age and mileage appropriate, can someone suggest what might be a reasonable price range? I think that the owner has significantly overvalued this vehicle.

Thanks!
Mark
