Hi All,

I have a 1982 380sl, just got it a week ago.
There is an issue with the AC. I have been reading a lot of info here and I am not sure what else to check.
The Ac blows cool air for a few minutes then gets warm.
The mono valve seems to be ok and i did change it already.
Freon is in it and has no leaks and the compressor turns on.
Air does come out of all the vents and the defroster vents all the time, so I know the pods are not working properly. Is there anything else to check.

Thanks

Off the subject. Do you know if the timing chain has been converted from single to double row. If single when it was last changed.

When you say "gets warm" do you mean the air gets hot? , as in heater on, or just stops being cold? (ie no cooling effect) If it's hot then your water valve is not turning off .

It gets warm not hot. If I turn on the heat that works fine.

According to my mechanic the timing chain was changed but i did not know to ask at the time if updated to the double chain. I will find out.

That could be a number of things then. If the temperature/on/off switch was kaput you would think it wouldn't get cool at all. Maybe the compressor is running out of puff. I'm no expert here. I think you need an aircon person to look at it. Good luck.
