I've had a '68 250 SE for about 17 years and have pretty much done everything to it-wood interior parts, body, some mechanicals to make it into a driver- it was pretty much intact and original when I purchased it from an estate sale for $1K.It had three sets of seat covers on it and the deceased guy that owned it restored fire engines, sold fire wood installed home alarm systems-whatever he could do to make a buck-and purchased duplicate wrecked Mercedes and halved 'em back together with a frame machine in his gigantic garage. It was his 'show car' that I bought.
He had accidentally crushed the quarter panel on it while turning around one of the fire engines in the yard, got disgusted with it and left it covered with a rug and three tarps. The rug/tarps did their job-when it was found it was a forgotten car with firewood piled around it sitting up to the frame in mud. A friend who was helping with the estate asked if I was interested in this mess. I told him forget it, it'll never run again...well they filled the tires with air put fresh gas in the tank, drained and filled the oil and installed a new battery and pulled it out of the mud..after 15 minutes or so it started up and idled! I wound up buying the car and drove it home that evening. I've been driving it (between repairs and a trip to the body shop for a new quarter and paint) ever since. The car still only has about 90K on it. I'm looking to replace the rear with one from a 4.5 W108, replace the shocks and add modern seat belts this winter.
Sorry for the loooong intro...LOL!:beerchugr:Cheers!
