First off Hi, my GF owns a 1987 190 E and I must admit it is one of the greatest cars I've ever driven or had the opportunity to work with.

Last year she spent a small fortune having the AC system redone because it was shot and it worked great afterwards.

It worked briefly this Spring but hasn't worked since.

When you go to turn it on it does nothing, as if it didn't even exist (I'm guessing electrical). We checked the fuse panel in the engine bay and found a blown fuse, for what I think is the AC. Replaced it with a spare fuse and no difference (also what's with these plastic type fuses, I had never seent hese before o===o ).

I'm guessing we're missing something and the dealer wants to charge the usual $80/hr to look at it. So if any of you could point me in the direction I would appreciate it.

The second question I have is about the little fuel efficiency gage, it stopped working around the same time I believe. I'm guessing they aren't related issues. Is this controlled by a cable or is it all electric? Could it be a bad ground? The Fuel gage works fine.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Jay
PS.. Can different fuses be used other than the ones that re in there, ie. o===o plastic ones replaced with the glass

As far as I know the AC system has to be
charged(w/freon)to activate. The car is using the old R12.and its very hard to find and very$$$$$.
I would suggest using OE fuses. The fuel efficiency
gauge is vaccum controlled.
Hope this help!

Thanks for the info on the efficiency gauge. As for the AC, it got a new compressor and was recharged last year. If it needed a recharge the compressor would at least kick on and such.

The compressor doesn't even turn on.

Thanks again.

Jay
